Summer of 2010 at the Ruins
The summer of 2010 is considered very successful by the executive. We had many visitors greeted by our curator Ryan Seguin, several couples requested time to have wedding photos in the Ruins and we are grateful for their donations.
Bernie MacCulloch and his team once again organized a great golf tournament to start the Glengarry Highland Games weekend. The greens at the golf club in Alexandria were filled with a full complement of golfers , most of whom sported tartan of one clan or another.
Thanks to the golfers and the many hole sponsors we were able to make another payment on our loan with the diocese of Alexandria-Cornwall. We are very happy to see that it is dwindling down close to zero!!
[p>On the Septemeber 12 weekend in addition to being a part of Doors Open Ontario a plaque unveiling ceremony was held. We were very pleased to have a family memember present for each name being unveiled.
Joanne Vachon spoke of her brother Bernie's love for Glengarry and how happy he would be to have his name and that of his parents engraved on the walls of the Ruins.
[P]Emile Chevrier was remembered by his daughter. Emile grew up near Cornwall and also had a fondness for his native county and by his wife's request his name was added to a plaque
From New York City came Alex Applegarth representing his mother Isabel. As he said he did not know his grandparents well he thought it appropriate for Msgr. McDougald to speak of Alex Willie and Amy( MacPhee) MacMillan. Alex said although his mother was now living in San Fransisco she is an Alexandrian at heart and would be pleased to see her parents names on the plaque.
Following the ceremony a social hour was hels in the parish hall.
As the year comes to a close we assure all our donors that we are most grateful for their support in helping to maintain this magnificent Glengarry structue.
