Weddings & Events

Is the venue available for weddings, elopements, or vow renewals, and how do I check availability for a specific date?
Yes, the venue is available for these events. Reserved dates are listed on our Events Calendar.

Can the venue be rented for non-wedding private events (e.g., birthday parties)?
All private events require approval from the Friends of the Ruins Committee.

How do we book an engagement or wedding photography session?
Call Diana at 613-347-2352 to reserve a date and time. See our Photography FAQ for rates and other information.

How far in advance do we need to book?
There is no minimum requirement. The sooner you book, the more choice you’ll have among available dates.

What are the fees for a wedding ceremony or elopement? Is pricing different for a short elopement versus a full ceremony?
The fee is $500 for a two-hour rental, with no difference in price between an elopement and a full ceremony.

What is included in the rental fee or wedding package (e.g., is a tour or info packet available)?
The fee covers use of the venue only. A rental agreement outlining the full details is provided.

How long can we rent the space for, and is there a minimum or maximum time block?
Two hours is the minimum rental block, with no maximum. The two hours covers set-up, the ceremony, photos, and take-down, so plan your timing accordingly.

What happens if it rains?
Renters must have a plan in place in case of inclement weather. Tents are not permitted within the Ruins.

Are only ceremonies permitted, or are receptions allowed as well?
Only ceremonies are permitted at the Ruins; receptions must be held elsewhere.

Is catering or food permitted onsite for a wedding or reception?
Catering and food are not permitted onsite for weddings.

Are non-Catholic ceremonies permitted, and can we bring our own officiant?
Yes, all denominations are welcome. An officiant is not included in the rental agreement, so couples need to arrange their own.

If we are Catholic, do we need to arrange our own priest, or is one provided through the venue?
Friends of the Ruins does not provide officiants of any denomination; couples must arrange their own.

Is event insurance required?
Yes. Proof of special occasion insurance covering guests is required, due two months prior to the wedding date. The policy must list the wedding date and St. Raphael’s Ruins as the venue; a copy can be emailed in advance.

What is the maximum guest capacity?
Approximately 300 guests.

Is there a nearby hall available to rent for a reception, washrooms, or after-party?
Yes. The parish centre across the road from the Ruins can be rented for receptions, or for washroom access only. Contact Tracey at 613-794-4302 for details.

Is there a phone number or contact person available to discuss details directly?
Yes, please contact Diana Sturkenboom at 613-347-2352 or gerritdiana@sympatico.ca.
